Myspace Magazine - Who Influences The Perfect Hairstyle?

Tags:
@ 05:30 AM (16 months, 11 days ago)
Who do you look to as a fashion mentor? Who do you base your hairstyle, beauty and fashion decisions on?

Playwright Oscar Wilde once stated: 'My great mistake, the fault for which I can't forgive myself, is that one day I ceased my obstinate pursuit of my own individuality.'

Wilde, born in Ireland in the 19th Century, would probably find it even more difficult this day and age in the new millennium unless, perhaps, he had the opportunity to have tea with Madonna.

It is a widely accepted fact of today's society that we are exposed and swayed on a daily basis by the subtle, and not so subtle influences of TV advertising, news media, and magazine and print. It is these influences that teach us we need to conform to certain trends and fashions, hugely impacting individual personalities and in some cases telling people that being 'accepted' demands following the latest fashion trends set by our size-0 fashion role-models, paying to have hairstylists work their magic to achieve the same cut as Hollywood's ingénue du jour and religiously following the latest and greatest celebrity diets. TV shows such as 'Extreme Makeover'and 'The Swan' transform every day folk into stiletto wielding Barbie clones, with tens of thousands of dollars of invasive surgical treatments the majority of people would never even consider.

Women and men alike are constantly exposed to picture-perfect images of what the perfect woman should look like, images that ignore the rules of nature such as sun damage, wrinkling, and other natural signs of aging. It is these images that set the standard of beauty, leaving a target audience of women striving to achieve this 'natural beauty' in their lives.

There is certainly nothing wrong with someone who strives to look their best, but ask yourself 'Who is it that decides exactly what that means?'

According to clinical psychologist Patricia Moscou, each of us must take an active responsibility and be aware of our own 'impression management.' This means thinking for ourselves and taking a conscious approach to everyday decisions such as hairstyle, hair color, make up, beauty treatments and fashion preferences.

Impression management isn't intended to encourage creating unhealthy obsessions with your look, it is simply the way YOU choose to present yourself.

Vogue magazine's former marketing director, Diana Lewis Jewell stresses that women and men alike need to be clear and understand exactly who is influencing our daily lifestyle decisions.

- Are you influenced by strangers you pass every day in public? People you don't even know, but somehow their opinions are held as an important influencing factor.

- Good friends naturally influence these decisions, however in many cases there is an underlying, subconscious competition to be the most attractive, or receive more attention than our peers.

- Employers or co-workers are often in a position of moderate to heavy influence already, so their opinions can play a vital role in deciding on hair color or fashion trends to follow.

- Family members can have intentional (protective) or unintended impact on fashion choices.

OR..... it is YOU? Are you the one who has control of your fashion and hairstyle preferences, do you decide what you like and why?

Dr. Kennon M. Sheldon, a psychologist at the University of Missouri-Columbia, has joined forces with researchers to discover exactly what actually makes people happy. It may come as a shock to learn that monetary status isn't number one. Neither is popularity or having the whitest, straightest teeth. According to their findings, the most important aspects of achieving happiness are self-esteem and autonomy. Feeling comfortable with, and endorsing, your personal choices. Unfortunately it can sometimes be an up-hill struggle to be aware of our own personalities, in a world where we are surrounded by strong opinions and influences.

When we talk of 'self-acceptance' we're not talking about a world where everyone rejects makeup and beauty treatments, self-acceptance means keeping an open mind, making the most of our natural beauty attributes to achieve personal satisfaction with your drawer full of makeup and your blow dryer... If that's what makes you happy!

In regards to hair, hair color and style, top stylists suggest you discover what works best with your natural texture, how to find a look that accurately portrays your individual personality. A good example we see every day is the mystery of curls. Many women born with curly hair go through a never-ending battle with hair straightener's and harsh chemical, instead of embracing the unique look and personality boost that can easily be achieved with curly hair. If you don't like your curly look, ensure this is your personal choice, not a choice effected by what you see every time you turn on the television or open the tabloids.

Myspace Magazine - Anna Nicole’s Sister is - Well… Just Like Mommy

Tags:
@ 05:55 AM (16 months, 23 days ago)

For the most part, I’ve felt a great deal of sorrow for Anna Nicole Smith these past several months. Especially with how horribly she’s been disrespected by everyone she trusted, especially from the very people she should be able to trust. Now we find her sister, who’s in the ranks of mother, Virgie Arthur.

quote-picAnna Nicole’s sister Donna Hogan - same white-blond hair, industrial- strength eye and lip makeup, ample bosom, low-cut top, but drinking only Sprite - said:

“It pisses me off when people say I’m making money off her. I was offered fortunes to tell on her. I was there when she did liposuction in the ’90s. I have pictures of her lipo. Even though I needed money bad, I never sold her out.”

Anna Nicole Smith's Sister - Donna Hogan - PICSo, OK, so Donna, hon, so then why “Train Wreck,” your new book about and against Anna?

“Because I was hurt. Because it’s closure for me. Because now she’s gone, and things about her upsetted me. She was selfish. I always respected her, and she always disrespected me. I was struggling. I had to live in a shelter to protect my three kids and I never asked her for nothing. She had four houses and never offered me one to stay in. I bought her a Marilyn Monroe doll and she never bought me a thing. She’d take people who worked for her on shopping sprees to Rodeo Drive and never bring my kids anything.

She sounds like an 8 year old fighting over a Barbie®.

“She never once offered me money. Except to try and take my little girl from me. See, even after she had Danny she wanted a girl child desperately. She offered me thousands, but only if I’d give up my baby daughter to her which, of course, I wouldn’t.”

About their similarities: “Well, yeah, I’ve done drugs . . . we’ve both had a wild crazy life . . . both had affairs with women . . . three-way sex . . . kids without husbands . . . and I’m now kind of living with someone . . . And, like her, I worked gentlemen’s clubs. I waitressed. There’s perverts who just want you to get drunk with them. So I’d sit and drink. You could make $2,000 a night.

“Look, I was offered lots of the same kind of stuff she was, but I just couldn’t do it. I think she had some kind of illness. She did it with all sorts of girlfriends and gay boyfriends. I mean, she gave our father - who molested girls and actually touched me - naked photos of herself. This is a man who got married the day after we buried Vickie.

“And she never liked her given name Vickie. In school she’d call herself Nicky, so maybe that’s where Nicole came in.”

Donna Hogan lives in Houston. Her gift baskets business is called Country Delights. Monday was her first moment ever in New York. After dinner she saw Times Square. While asking could she squeeze in a musical like “Mama Mia!” or “The Color Purple” between the 17 shows she’s doing to hustle her book, I was asking her opinion of Howard K. Stern.

“I never believed he was the father of Dannielynn. He couldn’t create a child even if he had two [she used a colorful word to describe male equipment.] He’s not man enough. Anna Nicole Smith led him around by the nose. And can you believe his sister now has a publicist? And wants to be a Dr. Ruth-type TV sex therapist?”

And Donna’s opinion of mother-dearest Virgie?

“Virgie had more media than family at the funeral. Listen, Virgie used to abuse Vickie. Treat her bad. Hit her. When they started Virgie went with her to the strip clubs.

“I never took money from anybody. All the media companies followed me and harassed me and offered big money for my story. I never took a dime. Now, for the funeral and lawyers and traveling around, Virgie has a photo company paying. Howard’s bills are being paid by a TV show. Larry Birkhead probably has some deal, too.”

About larger-than-life Anna Nicole Smith, this sister says: “She actually had nothing. She was always broke. She lost her ranch. She was always getting sued. She went bankrupt. She lost everything. Her life really turned into a train wreck after Howard Marshall. She got depressed. She fought to keep her name alive. She’d suddenly do anything to stay in the spotlight, then the more she got in the spotlight the more she had to do to stay there. And when Stern came into her life she really changed. Everything went downhill.

“Y’know, because of our same father and different mothers, there’s others of us. Like another sister Amy, who’s into modeling and nobody really knows where she is because nobody wants anything to do with her.”

A bite into the Waverly Inn’s soft roll, a sigh about “I really have to lose weight,” and then . . . “I guess the dysfunctionality in our family goes way back.”

And: “I just never want Howard or Virgie to end up with that baby.”

Put it down to another of your usual humdrum ho-hum evenings of nice pleasant boring dinner-table talk. Only in New York, kids, only in New York.

Myspace Magazine - Is She Off Her Meds???

crazzzzybritney.jpg

Britney Spears is still not well.

As if she wasn't "lost" enough, the troubled mother of two wants to fire her manager, Larry Rudolph, and go onwards without any guidance whatsover.

Last year, the recovering addict fired her longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane-Zelnick.

Poor Britney. We don't think she's a bad person. She's not mean or crazy. She's just stupid. Really stupid!

Simple. Or "country" as she would say.

Dumb as shit, we'd say.

This is a girl who never graduated high school. She received an equivalency diploma.

She never had the life experiences you acquire while going to college.

In many ways, Britney is mentally and emotionally retarded. She's still a teenage girl, totally lost and looking for approval.

Spears has always looked outside for self-love. She turned to Kabbalah, drugs, sex, having children. All that to give her life meaning. And she still doesn't have any. And she's still making bad choices. And she will continue to make the same mistakes.

Because....

How do we say this delicately???

Britney Spears is a fucking idiot!

Myspace Magazine - The Advantages of Having a Home Business

Tags:
@ 03:46 PM (17 months, 13 days ago)

The most evident advantage of having a home business is that you can be more involved in your family life. I'm not just talking about stay at home Moms. A good deal of the time, the man is the main breadwinner. Often he is away from home most of the week. Today's man values his family life. He wants to help raise his children. Having a "work at home" business allows him to actively participate with the children. Because so many businesses are failing or downsizing, the online business field has become very popular.

Whether it is the husband or the wife (often couples work as a team in a home business) there is someone there for the kids. No taking off work if your child is sick. You don't have to ask the boss if you can take off early to see your son's soccer game. You are there. The amount of quality time you can spend with your children will greatly increase.

Many lines in your family budget will decrease when you start working from home. Gas prices have gone sky high! It doesn't take any gas to walk from the bedroom to the home office. Look at the time you will save with no commute.

Your clothing budget will probably decrease also. There is no need for expensive dress clothes and shoes when you are working from home. No longer will you feel like you have to go out to lunch with your office mates. Keep that refrigerator stocked with fruits, vegetables and other nutritious items. Not only will you save money, but you will be healthier.

You will also save on your taxes. I cannot give advice on this subject since I am not a qualified accountant, but some of the advantages are obvious. Part of your mortgage will become tax deductible if you have a dedicated office area. Of course items that you buy for the business are deductible. Don't be afraid to spend money on advertising your business. It is deductible. If you are serious about your home business, you need the advice of an accountant. You will benefit from it.

To me, one of the best reasons to have a home business is that I am my own boss. I have always worked very hard for other people. Sometimes I was rewarded, usually I wasn't. As my own boss, I will reap all the rewards of my hard work. I won't have to put up with the idiosyncrasies of a boss. I will not have to deal with office politics. I am the boss and I am in charge.

The greatest reward I have found in having my own "work at home" business is that I now have so much more confidence in myself. It was really scary starting out, but as I progress, my self-confidence grows. I am learning new things. Who would think a 60 year old would learn HTML so she could redesign her website? I did it! I have learned to network with others in my field. So much can be learned form them. As I grow in knowledge, I will pass it on to those new in the field.

I encourage you to investigate the "work at home" industry. Don't jump on promises of overnight wealth. It doesn't happen. Look for a legitimate, stable opportunity. If you have the dream of working from home, do something about it. Don't just dream, take action. With work and determination, who knows what you will be able to accomplish.
