Zandra Rhodes is on video talking to Damian Barr from the Times in their "Cool In Your Code" feature for Borough, the area in London best known for its market. Rhodes started up the Fashion and Textile Museum in Borough, and also lives in the area. She told Barr some friends of hers saw an old warehouse and said to her "you've always wanted to do museum." She went on: "Style is when you're lucky enough to have something in you that you develop your own sense of originality." The Fashion and Textile Museum features nearly every item of clothing made by Rhodes throughout her career, as well as items from other designers.

Gloomy outfit pick

Tags:
@ 04:16 AM (18 months, 7 days ago)

outfitmini.JPGFrom what I've seen on the catwalks so far autumn/winter is going to be a sombre affair, so dust off your Nick Cave, Tindersticks and Depeche Mode records and sit out summer in my gloomy outfit. The uniform overtones of the ticking pinafore add a dour edge to a cute shape, team with patent wedges for femme fatale chic. A metallic parka is dressy, while adding a modern edge and an elegantly quirky purse completes the outfit. See after the jump for a full-sized picture and product links.

Preen for Topshop

Topshop have so many designer labels in at the moment it feels more like a Browns than a high-street store. My first favourite piece in this range is the grey jersey dress (£70); when you can get interesting jersey pieces all over the high street you might not be tempted by this, except for the fact that it's a lot interesting than anything you would usually come across. I also love their wool mix high waisted skirt (£60), I can see it becoming a quirky wardrobe staple. (click on the thumbnail for larger image).

Harper's Editor Only Plays With Boys, Says Girl

Tags:
@ 01:40 PM (18 months, 8 days ago)

no girls allowedHeather Mallick is a Canadian columnist-broad with an axe to grind against Roger Hodge, the new editor of Harper's. Heather's problem with Roger is that Harper's doesn't publish enough lady writers. (Their 2006 numbers: "118 male bylines, only 17 female"). Heather feels angry about this, and has also been upset by the way in which Hodge has responded to her complaints: "You don't read Harper's because of the sex or race or the regional background or ethnicity of the contributors." Fortunately for Heather, she can take some joy in the fact that the mag doesn't move a lot of copies.

Then the PR person at Harper's helpfully e-mails me its circulation figures, which are astounding and sad. This supposedly influential magazine sells 231,000 copies (including to a substantial group of Canadian readers) in a nation of 300 million people. It reaches only .076% of the U.S. population.
Wow, looking at those numbers, we feel better about women writers not getting published in Harper's too. But how are they doing elsewhere? We looked at one of the country's most influential publications, People magazine (2006 circulation of near 4 million). We took a recent random issue—January 22: "Angelina & Brad: More Kids? 'Of Course'"—and counted the bylined pieces. Guess what we found? While men accounted for a mere eight bylines, some of which were additional "reporting by" credits, women had a staggering 19 names in the book. So you see, Heather? Nothing to worry your pretty little head about.

Sarah Vowell, Please Do Not Visit The Old Town Bar

Tags:
@ 01:34 PM (18 months, 8 days ago)
So long as we are in town, we have a standing Sunday lunch date at Old Town Bar. We don't live too far from the place, but that's not what makes it our regular Sunday afternoon stop. It symbolizes pretty much everything that once was New York. The burger is far better than it needs to be and the pours are generous and the bar-wenches are surly with hearts of gold; were we restricted to one tavern for the rest of our lives, this would be it. So we were rather upset by this interview with Sarah Vowell, in which she professes great love for the Old Town, and whose affectless, NPR-ready voice gives us tiny myocardial infarctions each time we hear it. Sarah, please find another tavern. We're plenty happy with the crowd now; we'd hate to have to listen to some deeply overgeneralized statement on our country's culture while eating our burger. Thanks.

Victoria Beckham Launches Style Website

Tags:
@ 11:21 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

Has Miss Becks been taking camera tips from the Shiny Fashion TV crew? To coincide with the launch of her new book and a personal appearance at Selfridges during the week, now comes the Victoria Beckham "online style guide" complete with blog! But best of all is VBTV, short video snippets of what we assume will form part of her rumoured new television show. Although we suspect (or rather hope) that her new TV venture won't be all about high-end designers and £50,000 frocks considering she was recently spotted picking up a bargain at an Oxfam shop.

And speaking of Shiny Fashion TV, watch this space for more videos with all the latest and greatest fashion tips and trends hot off the press. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition, eh Vicky..?

Get Her Look - Rachel Bilson's Scanty Pyjamas

Tags:
@ 11:19 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

Scanty_pajamas_sml_1The sun may be shining in the UK, but warm it is not!  We've already enticed your frosty extremities with some fabulous hats, gloves and scarves this week; but what better to do in Winter than curl up with a hot drink in some oh-so-cosy pyjamas?

We're not the only ones to think that!  The always-stylish, and ever-adorable Rachel Bilson has recently been spotted in a pair of thermal Scanty pyjamas.. and Uggs!  Now, I know that Uggs as a fashion statement are no longer de rigueur, but they're difficult to beat for snuggly feet when the cold sets in, and in that sense, they're the perfect slippers.  Uggs are available from Ugg Australia, and a limited range from ASOS.

If you like Rachel's style, her pyjamas are the A/W 06 'Scanty Eskimos', available for pre-order at $77 from NessaLee Style, for delivery on 15 November.  The PJs pictured here are 'Love My Scanty', $78 from Pyjama Heaven, who also have a large range of other Scanty styles and prints!  The best thing?  All sites ship worldwide, so you've no excuse for shivering about the house!

A Good Example of Layering...

Tags:
@ 05:57 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

MillajovovichWe've spoken quite a bit recently about layering and the right and wrong way to do so. But if you're still unsure then here is a great example of the right way to layer. Yes, it's Milla Jovovich who, let's face it, looks good in anything and everything but the point is it's a perfect example of how layering can work. Starting with a pair of leggings (Gemma's favourite, wink!), Milla has added a pair of tights underneath and finished off the bottom section with a good set of lace-up boots. Then, adopting the long top trend, she has added a darker colour top which is complimented by a lighter coloured top. This is a great way to break up an outfit and prevent you from looking frumpy or ten times bigger than you actually are. Finally, Milla has included a long cardigan (left open to also prevent "over-packing") a striped scarf and arm warmers. Perhaps, she could have done without the baggy arm warmers but at the end of the day it is Milla Jovovich and if, like her, you can get away it then by all means give it a go!

Tip: Always remember alternate colours with your layers as this add interest and stops you from looking frumpy.

Smock top it like the Vogue cover

Tags:
@ 04:45 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

How beautiful does Jessica Stam look on the cover of the Feb07 Vogue? The gorgeous Gucci smock top reminds me of when I was young and innocent and splattering paint all over my art smocks.  Now it’s fashionable to wear a smock top again (probably not so fashionable to splatter paint all over them though). But large florals, subtle florals or bright florals, you can take care of your Vogue cover look in one stop… at TopShop of course!

Here’s some of our favourites:

Smocktops

Left to right: Apple Print Smock Top has subtle colours and flattering shape that will simply float around the body bits you won’t want it to cling to. Flocked Wallpaper Smock Top could be worn with chunky brass accessories and leggings for that stylish mod look. Square Neck Flower Top can be styled just like the Vogue cover with a belt cinching it down at the waist for a pulled together stylish look. Floral Tunic Blouse, perfect for the inner flower child with skinny jeans or pants and ballet flats.

Gotta love TopShop – even more so now that they ship to more countries.

P.S. Just wanted to say hello – I’m Helen, CQ’s newest addition. You may know me from my website sassybella.com. I’ve been visiting CQ for… well since back when it was a dot net and was just Gemma’s personal blog!

The Alloy 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' bow cardigan

Mjalloycardi

Did you lust after the gorgeous Marc by Marc Jacobs velvet bow cardigan (pictured above left) this time last year? I know I did – in red with the black bow. Well Alloy have been soooo inspired by them they’ve created one of their own (pictured above right), and instead of setting you back £140, the Alloy velvet bow cardigan will only cost you $29.50. And yes, it is acrylic. But at that price, you can afford to buy the slate and ivory colour cardigan to mix and match your way through the year!

Broadcast outfit

Tags:
@ 04:08 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

Broadcastlips

Looking like a sixties femme fatale stranded in space for the last 40 years (but without the ageing!) Trish Keenan is my icon for the moment. Keenan is one third of retro-futurists Broadcast, who manage to combine beautiful melodies and ethereal vocals with the sound of a thousand  sinister clockwork toys whirring into action. The space age/sixties look is very popular at the moment and isn't too difficult to replicate on the high street but I've tried to keep in the retro swing of thing by picking a few vintage items.

With a bit of careful hunting you should be able to pick out a Broadcast influenced outfit from charity shops, but online retro stores offer a painless alternative. First up is this lovely sea green dress  for £40 from Candy Says, wear with some Topshop opaques (£6), white may seen like an odd choice but will totally add to the space cadet look. Accessorise with some cute deer earrings, only $12 from Naughty Secretary Club. To take this look into the stratosphere wear with Plaid Pony Vintage's silver sixties shoes ($32). By now if you add any more secondhand clothing chances are you will look insane, so turn it down a notch with Topshop's wide shawl collar coat for £85. Voila! An outfit perfect for hanging round flyovers and subways pretending you're part of some dystopian future.

Which Catherine Malandrino tee do you like better?

Tags:
@ 04:04 AM (18 months, 9 days ago)

matches-catherinmalandrino.jpg

So they’re the same tee with the only difference being the sleeve length, but they both are extremely versatile in many different ways. You could wear the longer sleeve Catherine Malandrino black and white striped jersey top under tunic and pinafore dresses as the sleeve length would great for layering during the transitional seasons. But then the short sleeved Catherine Malandrino tee would be great all through summer and look just as sweet under a pinafore dress or overalls.

With only £12 the price difference, which one would you choose?

30749.jpgThese "best store in the whole world...ever!" awards seem to come along every couple of weeks now, but New Look are apparently particularly pleased to have won this one, as the voters were actual consumers, rather than fashion industry peeps. The consumers in question submitted their comments on the high street to the UK's largest reviews website Review Centre, with almost all of them being of the "OMG! New Look totally rules!" variety - hence the award.

Head to Net-a-Porter for a history lesson

Tags:

index.jpg Net-a-Porter have got a wonderful style report on dresses at the moment; dresses are still big this season, but the curvy '50s look is being replaced by a slimmer shorter shape, like this Philip Lim shift (£340). Their handy style report skims through the different types of dresses from A-line to sack giving you a snippet of history about each type. This is brilliant and totally appeals to my inner thirteen-year-old, in fact I might have to start re-reading all my fashion history books; did you know that the French word 'redingote' (meaning frock coat) is a bastardization of the words 'riding coat'?

Marchesa, talent or connections

Tags:
@ 01:32 AM (18 months, 10 days ago)

march.JPG Marchesa bosses Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman were interviewed in the New York Times recently about their collections, background and speedy success. The label has quickly become a permanent fixture on the red carpet: “Right now there is a buzz around those girls,” said Sally Singer, the fashion features director of Vogue. “Because their collection is popping up on all the right people, it has become part of a club. People want to wear them.” This might have something to do with Chapman's relationship with Hollywood boss Harvey Weinstein who is known for being able to make or break careers. The dress on the left is an archetypal Marchesa look, pretty, feminine not too avant-garde. In a word, perfect for the Oscars. See after the jump for a more adventurous Marchesa look.

Oscar Memories.

Tags:
@ 01:30 AM (18 months, 10 days ago)

sophialoren.jpgAs we approach the 79th Annual Academy Awards, I thought it could be a fun idea to take a step back in time for a glance at what some of Hollywood's silver screen beauties looked like when they picked up their gold statuettes. As Gemma kindly informed me, this was back in the day when starlets often had to borrow their gowns from their respective film studios. Hard to imagine in today's fashion-focused celebrity climate. From the first Academy Awards ceremony held in 1929, which made eligible all films made between 1927 and 1928, the Oscars have become synonymous with glitz and glamour, bringing together some of the most talented and well-respected individuals of all time. Oscar Predictions: What will the nominees wear?

Tags:
@ 01:26 AM (18 months, 10 days ago)

cate2.jpgYou've seen my trend predictions, we've raided the couture shows for tips, and now I'm ready to make wild claims that'll no doubt prove untrue. It's time for the Catwalk Queen pre-Oscar predictions. Nope, I'm not guessing who'll win the gongs, but which designers and looks the female nominees will go for. My money's on Cate Blanchett (shown left at the Berlin Film Festival in a purple Yves Saint Laurent number I picked up on a few days ago) and Kate Winslet looking the best....

Performance by an actress in a leading role

Penélope Cruz in “Volver”
Penélope is a big fan of subtly romantic, timeless looks from designers like Oscar De La Renta and Georgio Armani, and usually goes for strapless shapes and dramatic colours. She's done yellow, black and green so perhaps this year she'll be one of the ladies in white or pale peach or blue? It wouldn't surprise me, though I'd like to see her in something more dramatic, perhaps deep red or a bold blue, or really detailed beading or embroidery. I think it's time she took tips from her pal Salma Hayek on how to up the 'wow' factor.

Designers clamour for Mirren Oscar glamour (groan!)

Tags:

73292735.JPG
Helen Mirren (looking lovely in Jacques Azagury at the Baftas) is reportedly being fought over by designers who want her to wear their frocks at the Oscars on Sunday. She is hotly tipped to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards which is being shown on Sky from 11pm (get the coffee brewing!). An industry source told the Daily Mail today:'Top fashion houses see this as a serious campaign and have set aside as much as £300,000 to get her', Prada have also offered to dress her husband, producer Taylor Hackford for free. I'm glad that Helen Mirren exists, a shining example of the sexy older woman made all the more human by her eccentric ways. Apparently she hates travelling with luggage so much that when she goes abroad she raids the charity shops when she lands. Aah, a woman after my own heart!

Tags:

bba.jpg
I promise I won't keep going on about this, as the word 'awards' has appeared on this blog rather a lot in recent days. However, this is the first time we've stood the chance of actually winning one, so I had to give it a mention. Metro have teamed up with Ask.com to bring us the Best of Brit Blog Awards. It's brilliant to see British blogs getting the chance to show their worth, and do you know what's Absolutely Fantastically Brilliant? There's a fashion category! So if you think Catwalk Queen (or any of our other fashion blogs) deserves a nod, we'd be honoured to be nominated.

The categories are Arts and Entertainment, Fashion, Sport, Politics, Travel, Technology, Youth (for bloggers under the age of 18) and Weird & Wonderful. I would go into a big list of what sites I'd recommend you choose for each, but I wouldn't want to sway your vote. Instead I'll just direct you to the 'Shiny Sites' links in our right sidebar...

jpgbook.jpgIf, like me, you love the genius and eccentricity of Jean Paul Gaultier but have a budget that suits his perfume rather than his couture, £40 for this piece of fashion literature may appease you somewhat. Photographed by Michal Haddi, 'Happy Birthday Glamour Puss! 30 Ans De Jean Paul Gaultier' covers a spectacular party hosted by the designer in Paris last October to celebrate his 30 years in fashion. Packed with the cream of the fashion world plus the odd Hollywood star, it was the party to be seen at and it's all here in this book. I would have been at said party myself, but my invitation got lost in the post, along with my Brits and Oscar invitations. Bloomin' Royal Mail.

If you're euro-chic, then you've probably also had the luxury of shopping in this chain back in its original homes, Spain and France. The Mediterranean and slighty pricier equivalent of Topshop, it's edgier than Zara and more sophisticated than Mango with gorgeous pieces designed to create your own individual look. If you've no chance of getting down to central London any time soon, then head on over to Net-a-porter where they have a small collection available including this pretty green sundress for £125.

Sass & Bide Designer's Cancer Scare

sassandbide.jpgHeidi Middleton (pictured on right), one half of the design duo behind Sass & Bide, has been treated for breast cancer just days after giving birth. Middleton gave birth to her second child, Elke Bay Plowman, last Thursday before undergoing a lumpectomy to remove a tumour in her breast. "The good news is that the worst is behind us," said her designer partner, Sarah-Jane Clarke. The Aussie designers said they were unaware of Middleton's condition when they recently showed their latest collection at New York Fashion Week, which Middleton opted to sit out of. "From now on it's going to be good and she's going to get lots of rest and is looking forward to being her happy, healthy self again," Clarke told reporters. Middleton plans to take the next few months away from the fashion world to concentrate on motherhood. [Via news.com.au]

Mod/jumble style outfit

Tags:

minioutfit.JPG I saw this dress in Oasis today and I really wanted to try it on. I love the russet and black combo (brown and black is my new obsession) and the cute fitted shape. As soon as I saw these lace-ups (lace-ups are my 2nd new obsession) I knew they'd look good with the dress. I know they're probably not to everyone's taste but the little dashes are the best. I'm bored of teal in a big way but this coat is blue enough to hold my attention, with a slight metallic sheen to keep it subtly up to date. I'd turn the preppiness up a notch with this tartan tote, the mesh pockets keep it casual. Coordinate/clash with Candy Says' Barbour hat which picks out a lot of colours from the outfit. If you're going to waste your boss' time this afternoon, you could do worse than stare longingly at this rasberry dress by Bottega Veneta from Net-a-Porter. Sure, the price made me laugh out loud (£1,370!) but just looking at the pretty pink dress reminds me of marquees, ice cream and heels sinking into grass. Another dress that woke me from my post-Krispy Kreme doughnut haze was Moschino's Cheap and Chic dotted shift. It's not cheap by any means at £310, but forget for a second as your eyes wander to its elegant boat-neck collar. Thankfully, it comes with pockets for any spare change you have left over after buying it...

Glaring Omissions: Larry Birkhead's Formerly Huge Schnozz

Tags:
@ 12:16 PM (18 months, 11 days ago)

Lbh.jpgGlaring Omissions reproduces tips received from readers in the last week that weren't covered on Gawker, either by accident (rarely) or design (almost always).

  • "IF you didst know and obviously you didn't. LARRY BIRKHEAD HAD A NOSE JOB HIS NOSE WAS HUGE!!! APPARENTLY YOU NEVER had seen his previous photos pre op?"
  • "The tabloid wars are heating up! Check out this week's OK! magazine (March 5, 2007, Issue 10), and the little yellow cover button on the right hand side which boasts: "50 [cents] less than Us Weekly!" Us Weekly's cover price is $3.49, and OK! is now selling at $2.99, a bump up from the $1.99 they were selling at to get some of Bauer Publishing's business (In Touch and Life & Style). With Us Weekly slumping in sales to around 850,000-950,000 a week, the super underdog OK! is looking to go for the jugular and take more of its newsstand sales." [Shill probability: 99.9%.]
  • "Dear Gawker, If you have been following Monsanto's proposed merger with Delta Pine, we thought the following would be of interest...." [Um, no.]
  • "hey, did you guys see this ridiculous picture of three brothers playing "championship" dodgeball together on the front of today's metro section? seriously, man—dodgeball may be dorky, but who said you had to wear such gay clothes doing it? and playing on grass? what's that about? bonehead"
  • "You've probably noticed the Girl Scouts' headquarters in Manhattan are getting some press lately for joining MySpace, after a century of selling cookies the old-fashioned way. In case you're not familiar, I've seen them in Advertising Age, AdRants.com, and the New York Times, and I found their new cookie site, girlscoutcookies.org, and myspace page, myspace.com/girlscoutcookiesale - which actually has some pretty ridiculous ads from the 70s, haaa..." [Shill probability: 90%.]
  • "Re: 2 short questions: events committee and p.r. committee?—What's the website for journalists? This is the list they put together last year: [redacted]"
  • "why has gawker not had anything to say about the diane von furstenberg barbie! if you have a dvf tag, it really must include the barbie version."
  • "There's a new show they're going to shoot soon for fox, it's like project runway with a hit of american idol and some jew stuff cause spielberg's involved. This is my film. is there an easy way to shamelessly ask for self promotion? yeah, i could show you my tits- tell me where and when. c'mon though, you get bored, right? give it a look and then have some black guy talk about how lame it is while you find a new way to masterbate to the sunday times"
  • "The "article" on Ash Wednesday is pure trash! Not cool to put down someone else's beliefs, especially since the freedoms we have are based on them!"

gillianhearstshaw.jpg What do you do when your sister got all the model-pretty genes and your 'socialite' reality show never got produced? Well, if you're Gillian Hearst-Shaw, you go into the family business. According to WWD, the socialite has been "quietly working" as an editorial assistant at Town & Country's semiannual wedding and quarterly travel magazines—her family has an ownership stake in, natch—since early January. "Not only do I get to learn and work, I also get to learn and work at a family company," Hearst-Shaw cooed to WWD. But will her assistanting duties get in the way of her wedding plans? (Hearst was given a "blindingly huge diamond engagement ring" last weekend in the Berkshires by her lawyer boyfriend Christian Simonds). We hope not! She tells WWD that charges of nepotism just make her want to "work that much harder" to prove that she deserves her job. You go, girl!

Team Party Crash: David LaChapelle's 'Heaven to Hell'

    @ 09:17 AM (18 months, 11 days ago)

Now that Britney and Lindsay have retired from crotch shots, it's time someone filled the unwanted nudity void. And who better to do so than incredibly overexposed trannie Amanda Lepore and her rock hard nipples? As punishment for their sins, we sent Intern Stephanie and the one-and-only Nikola Tamindzic to Taschen's SoHo store where photographer-music video director-celebrity loverboy David LaChapelle and his favorite shemale gal pal autographed copies of his most recent collection, Heaven to Hell. View our gallery here or Nikola's here.

A mob of hipsters wearing red fishnet tights or black leggings took up an entire block on Greene Street. The line wrapped the corner to Prince Street. Immediately, Amanda Lepore had a nip slip. That's probably not an issue for her.

The Taschen store is a bizarre combination of Urban Outfitters and Alice in Wonderland. So. Many. Bright. Colors. The DJ was on pop songs from the early 90s.

Dave LaChapelle lip-synched "Hot in Here" by Nelly while the freaks and geeks in line looked at each other with bewilderment. Up next were two *N Sync songs: "Bye, Bye, Bye" and "Tearin' Up My Heart." Dave took a break from signing to do the "Bye, Bye, Bye" dance.

The after-party resembled the cafeteria of "Mean Girls." The cool Asians hovered in the corner. The desperate wannabes danced to "Billie Jean." The burnouts alternated between staring at the desperate wannabes, their RAZRs, and their drinks. After someone started square dancing to "Don't Stop Movin" by S Club 7, it was time to carry our four-pound Taschen books home.

Dave signed mine, but his handwriting is impossible to decipher. Hope he said something funny. Or nice. Like a high school yearbook. BFF. Something.

At midnight, Ms. Lepore was seen at 14th Street and Seventh Avenue, perhaps leaving Plumm. She was all in white, and escorted by what looked like three fellas from Staten Island. Of course she was!

Judge Boots Ex-Driver Witness Off the Stand

Troy Hollier: Click to watchTroy Hollier, an ex-security employee of Anna Nicole Smith, said in court that Anna told him just after Daniel Smith's funeral that if anything should happen to her, "I need to be with Daniel," suggesting that she wanted to be buried with her son in the Bahamas. Hollier said that she told him this while floating on a raft in her swimming pool, taking his hand urgently and making the statement.

But Judge Larry Seidlin abruptly rubbished Hollier's testimony, saying that he wasn't convincing, and telling the attorneys for Howard K. Stern, who called him as a witness, that he wasn't believable. And he swiftly kicked Hollier off the stand.

Hollier also said that Anna Nicole "wore the pants" in the relationship between her and Howard K. Stern. He added that he had never seen her do any drugs.

"I haven't seen her a whole lot" in the last two years, said Hollier, who met Anna Nicole Smith in late December 2000.

Opri: We Got Shut Down by Judge

    Tags:
    @ 09:10 AM (18 months, 11 days ago)
Debra Opri, Larry Birkhead's lawyer, just spoke to the assembled press outside the courtroom, and called Birkhead "the good guy" in this case, adding that Howard K. Stern could not claim paternity in the Bahamas because Dannielynn, the child caught between the two men, is an American citizen.

Opri contended that she had gotten "shut down" in court by Judge Larry Seidlin, who seemed to cut Opri's questioning of Birkhead much shorter than she wanted. But, said Opri, "This fight is not over. We fight for every inch of dirt, and we are going over to the Bahamas" to continue the legal sparring.

The proceedings are scheduled to resume at 2:30 PM EST.

    What's With All The Turbans?

jloturban.jpgThis is one of those trends that just doesn't sit right with me. On the one hand it looks totally ridiculous and resembles most of us just after we've washed our hair and wrapped it up in a towel, meaning that we don't leave the house. On the other hand, styled correctly on right person and it does have the small potential to look quite chic. Make note of the words small potential. But the real question I'm asking is - what's with all the turbans lately? One minute they're appearing on the catwalks for Prada and Ralph Lauren and the next minute Ashley Olsen is spotted doing her shopping in one. This is how trends begin... even the bad ones.

BFF's Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore are the ultimate shopping buddies. Regularly spotted out and about spending their millions in LA, a recent photo showed them in Barneys with Diaz holding up a top I just had to have. To my despair I couldn't find it on the website but being resourceful as I am, I came across this little number instead. By Phillip Lim, I totally love it's '60s vibe and yellow button detail. Matched with these Nanette Lepore wedges it's my idea of a perfect outfit.

    Margaret Howell spring collection

    mg1.JPG

Margaret Howell's spring '07 collection has got me wishing for sunny weather. I think I'm a bit young for this look (hmm... not so young!) but I've always been a fan of the Kristin-Scott Thomas type Gallic chic; evoking military dress, hot summers and masculine tailoring. Howell has got some of the best cut high-waisted trousers I've seen, see left and 2nd from left above (apart from perhaps the Chloe crops), and smart touches like the berry shell top (left) bring out the best in navy and camel neutrals. The dress second from left is actually a very dark green, with a khaki trim and a generous heaping of pleats and the print top on the right looks very unstructured but is in perfect proportion with the skirt and belt. I'm going to try this summer to not add a million cheap pieces to my already bursting wardrobe, but to try to make some judicious investment purchases like some of the Margaret Howell items... Eek! Check after the jump for close-ups of two of the outfits.

    Tesco dotted Swiss smock top

I love dotted swiss (see detail, above), which is why although I'm getting a bit bored of smocks I'm coveting Tesco's pretty blue tie front smock. Only £15 and the tie front is pretty handy as every time I wear a smock or sack dress at the moment my mum tells me I look pregnant and it's kind of hard to explain to relatives how volume is big (literally) at the moment. You can't buy online yet but there's a store directory to let you know where your nearest Tesco's is. I'd wear this with white city shorts and sandals in the summer, but for now team with slim or skinny grey trousers, canvas shoes and a warm but lightweight dove grey parka.

Anna & Methadone Doc -- Down and Dirty

Anna's Gay Ol' TimeTMZ has obtained shocking video footage of Anna Nicole Smith and a shirtless Dr. Sandeep Kapoor getting hot and heavy at a West Hollywood, Calif. gay bar in 2005, in what looks like a photo shoot.

Both Larry Birkhead and Howard K. Stern can be seen looking on as Anna gets groped and licked by Kapoor, who is currently the subject of an inquiry by the California Medical Board over his possible misconduct in the prescribing of methadone to an alias used by Smith.

As TMZ first reported, a prescription for methadone was written by Dr. Kapoor on August 25, 2006 for "Michelle Chase," a known alias of Anna Nicole Smith, who was eight months pregnant at the time.

Birkhead: Stern Tried to Get Between Me and Anna

Larry Birkhead said on the witness stand that Howard K. Stern and Anna Nicole Smith did not have an "intimate" relationship and that he "interfered" in their relationship.

Birkhead said that Stern cancelled tickets to a basketball game that he and Anna Nicole were planning to go to, and that he would stay in her house on the couch, even though they wanted privacy. He even said that Anna suggested getting a love nest where they could get away to.

    Kate Moss perfume

    Tags:
    @ 05:07 AM (18 months, 14 days ago)

Opium7720772_3 Kate Moss has been in countless adverts for perfume but is now launching her own signature scent. She signed a deal with Coty, the company behind the scents for Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, and The Beckhams. The perfume is coming out in September, although no name has been confirmed as yet. The Senior vice president of global marketing for Coty Beauty Steve Mormoris  said the scent was "a mix of elegant and risqué." It has smoky rose and black undertones and a vintage English feel. Momoris added: "It captures the two sides of Kate: the good Kate and the bad Kate". I hope it's more good Kate than bad Kate, I'd hate to think what the smell of bad Kate is; fags and booze perhaps?

    What Is A Chemise ...

    Tags:
    @ 04:42 AM (18 months, 15 days ago)

Originally the chemise was a simple shirt or smock worn under the clothes. It was designed to keep sweat and body oils from staining and spreading to the outer garments. It developed from the Roman tunica in the medieval times. In the European Middle Ages chemise was popular in both men and women. Women wore chemises as shirts beneath their gowns while the men wore chemises with their trousers and covered them with doublets or robes. Today only women wear a chemise almost always as a part of her lingerie ensemble.

Chemises are worn as lingerie under formal clothes and also as a simple sleepwear. They are made of comfortable fabrics like cotton, silk or satin. They are considered quite a fashion statement for women who love the beauty of sexy lingerie. Designer chemises are quite a fad these days. Earlier chemises were mostly stitched by the wearer themselves at home. Gradually the store bought readymade chemises made
